Jillian’s birthday happened to fall during the release of her podcast. While she usually doesn’t do too much to celebrate her birthday, she decided that this year was special and wanted to invite her friends over for a party. Then, a terrible thought came to her. It was January and freezing cold. What if no one showed up?

“What if I put out there to the world that I’m going to have a party, and nobody shows up?”

While Jillian is an outgoing person that loves to go on trips, go to events, and hang out with people, she was afraid and embarrassed by the thought that no one might come to her celebration.

Her birthday came, and she ended up having a great party and getting ice cream with some friends. On her drive home, however, a thought came to her. She forgot to brush her hair! On top of that, she realized she had forgotten to put on deodorant. Great!

Right when it seemed like it couldn’t get worse, a cop pulled her over. Now, it gets cold during Montana winters, and Jillian’s car had accumulated quite a mess with 5 kids during the cold winter months. When the officer looked in her car, she could tell by the look on his face that between her hair, smell, and car, he probably thought she had a warrant out for her arrest, and he called for backup!

The cop asked Jillian if she knew why he pulled her over, and she said that she didn’t. To make everything even worse, Jillian couldn’t find her driver’s license. The cop was kind and professional and took down her information for her, and the reason she got pulled over was because her light was out.

As she drove home that night and reflected on the day’s events, she realized that while on social media everything seemed exciting and perfect with the launch of her podcast, she had just had a big hot mess of a birthday!

So just be encouraged that if your day or your feelings are a big hot mess, you’re not alone. We all go through the same things!
